Earlewood neighborhood committees

Each Committee Chair typically calls a meeting of their committee members monthly or every other month, with meetings lasting not much longer than one hour. Meetings focus on completion of existing projects and new projects and will include a brief report by the Committee Chair. Committees are as follows:

Street Captains
The Street Captains are the “eyes and ears” as they go to each residence every other month. Anything they see that needs to be corrected will be reported to the appropriate committee.

Elections
This committee conducts the regular elections every two years or any special election.

Communications
This committee produces the printed newsletter every two months, email alerts as necessary and updates the website.

Nominating

This committee nominates officers prior to the elections.

Quality of Life
This committee is responsible for improving the Quality of Life in Earlewood. Duties include selecting the "Yard of the Month" and organizing events such as National Night Out, Thanksgiving Dinner and the Holiday Party. The committee also coordinates planting and maintaining the entrance beds on River Drive and Park Street. In addition, anything concerning Earlewood Park and Marshall Park is handled by this committee.

Police and Safety
This committee works with the police and crime prevention. The chair will lead the monthly crime prevention meeting held each month before the regular meeting. Crime prevention meeting begins at 6:30 pm.

Zoning and Planning
This committee stays in frequent contact with Marc Mylot of the City of Columbia and Richland County and its inspectors—including Marie Brown, one of the inspectors for our area. Members stay on the lookout for zoning violations and report them accordingly.

Membership
This committee works closely with the Member-at-Large officer and Street Captains to increase membership. The Chair is responsible for maintaining the database of current members.

Grants

This committee works closely with Community Development at the City of Columbia and is responsible for preparation of Cando Grants, Mini Grants, Columbia Green Grants and any other grant Earlewood may qualify for.
